Narzissenfest

28th- 31st May 2026

in Bad Aussee

The Narzissen Festival Majesties and their Duties

The most exciting days for the candidates are certainly those during the Narzissenfest itself. Photo shoots are on the agenda at the beginning. Then a flurry of activity! A photo here, an interview there. The Royals get to meet a flood of lovely people: from visitors to the float creator themselves, whose preparations for the festival on Sunday are in full swing. During this stressful time, the Queen and her Princesses are accompanied by attendants who chauffeur the Royals and cater to their every need. During the Narzissenfest, the Royals have the privelege of staying overnight at the luxurious 4* Hotel Erzherzog Johann. Then comes one of the highlights:  each lady is fully outfitted from head to toe in Ausseer traditional dress. The outfit, valued at approximately €2,500, is provided each year by local boutiques, and includes jewerly, shoes, a handbag, hand-printed silk scarves, a traditional jacket and as well as a tailor-made Dirndl.

After the festival, the Royal Highnesses can look forward to appearances as guests of honor at various events, such as:

  • the Altaussee Kirtag
  • tourism fairs at home and abroad
  • meetings with other Royal Highnesses
  • the Styrian Spring Festival in Vienna (Steiermarkfrühling)
  • as well as TV and radio appearances.

Their Royal Highnesses will, of course, also be financially compensated for the 10-15 appearances which they make throughout the year.

A look back: Majesties of the last 60 years

A journey into the past – the queen is always seen in the center, with the two princesses to the left and right.
